"Homegoing" Scholarship

Connecting to the Past

The “Homegoing” scholarship is an essay scholarship contest that is offered to high school seniors in Prince George's County, Maryland and DC Wards 5-8 schools,  that volunteer with The Neighborhood.  The scholarship involves reading the book “Homegoing” by Yaa Gyasi and writing an essay in response to the book. The essay prompt: Which character(s) do you relate to the most and why?


Essays will be reviewed by our Board. The scholarship winner will receive $500 to be used for academics or the arts. Application period is from January 1st- March 31st. For more information, please fill out our contact form.
